Tell us a little bit about the experience you have with the services you offer through the Urban Helper.
I fell into online marketing when I introduced a pro-audio company to the Facebook platform shortly after it launched in 2004. I created events and flyers through Facebook that connected music students to the company, which later landed me a full-time position as this company’s first online marketing specialist. In 2008 I moved to Los Angeles and began pursuing freelance marketing work. I started an LLC in 2011 and have worked full-time for myself since.
In addition to pursuing my own art, I have played as a “hired gun” pianist and singer for almost 20 years now. I began playing music professionally when I was 13, after being hired as the seasonal pianist at a Nordstroms at the local mall during the holidays. I continued playing professionally through high school, even obtaining special permission to enter and perform in nightclubs as a minor. After moving to Los Angeles in 2008, I began working as a session musician as a vocalist and pianist.
Have you been hired through the Urban Helper yet? If so, what was that experience like?
Yes! I have assisted with online and offline marketing strategy.
What do you enjoy about the work you do?
I am always doing something different, learning something new, and meeting interesting people.
What are the top three things you love about your neighborhood?
What about The Urban Helper’s mission resonates with you? Not everyone has the option of working a traditional job, and not everyone can afford to pay for things that they really do need. This is an inevitable side effect of capitalism - many people get left behind. I appreciate how The Urban Helper wants to restore some of that power back to the people who are being overlooked, and that’s a mission that aligns with my personal values.
